1966 World Cup Final (DVD)
ENGLANDS GREATEST EVER SPORTING TRIUMPH
Youve beaten them once now go out and do it again! With these words Alf Ramsey sent out his weary players for a gruelling half hour of extra time. They had already played 90 minutes of superbly entertaining football against a West German team determined to play their part in a thrilling final.
For 12 long minutes it had seemed that Martin Peters goal had won the cup for England. Then , in the last minute of normal time, Wolfgang Weber had desparately stretched for a bobbling ball and stabbed it past the despairing Gordon Banks. The capacity crowd fell silent. The England players looked shattered.
The subsequent 30 minutes proved even more dramatic. Millions witnessed the most contriversial moment in World Cup history, the first ever hat-trick in the Final and an outburst of relief and celebration when the final whistle signalled Englands greatest ever sporting triumph Click here for more information... |

Starring: Belinda Lang, Gary Olsen, Julia Hills, John Pickard, Georgina Cates On the surface, the Porters are a normal family - even the series' title 2 Point 4 Children alludes to their normality (as well as the fact that the husband/father is still a bit of a child himself). Yet, though the individual members' (central-heating engineer Ben, his wife, catering worker Bill, and their teenage children David and Jenny) are unexceptional, the situations in which the family find themselves are anything but. 2 Point 4 Children: Series 2 (DVD)
The series begins with Bill (Belinda Lang) unemployed after losing her job at the bakery. She finds the routine, demands and trivial trauma of domestic life humdrum and confining, and the mysterious biker is also very much on her mind. Husband Ben, despite having a new plumber's mate, ails somewhat and petty arguments develop over, amongst other things, his driving and the neighbour's annoying and flatulent dog. A new job and an unexpected pregnancy in the household do little to appease her state of mind. Her problems are compounded when Ben's estranged father returns on a flying visit with a young Thai bride. For friend Rona (Julia Hills) on the other hand, life seems to have taken something of a turn for the better. Re-united with an old flame her relationship blossoms and it is not long before the sound of wedding bells can be heard. DVD Extras: "Misery" the Christmas Special screened 22.12.92; SDH for Deaf and hard of Hearing Click here for more information... |

20,000 Streets Under The Sky (DVD)
Patrick Hamilton's trilogy is brought to life in this adaptation. A story of unrequited love set against the backdrop of the grimy streets and public houses of 1930s London, revolving around The Midnight Bell, a bar off the Euston Road; it follows the painful pursuit of love from three different perspectives: barman Bob, who yearns for penniless street-walker Jenny; his colleague Ella, torn between the attentions of an older, wealthier man and her secret desire for Bob; and Jenny, forced onto the streets through circumstances and now struggling to keep her head above water. This beautifully observed three-part series captures the milieu who stand at the side of the bar and pour out their passions: unrequited love, ambition and disappointment.
